Summer
A child shrieks before leaping into the pool with a resounding splash; the campfire crackles; the cicadas sing in the heat: there’s no doubt about it, summertime is here! It is a most enjoyable season, a time of sun, holidays, festivals, and fairs. Note that this perception of the summer as a time of leisure is quite recent. In past centuries, Québec’s mostly rural population kept busy with farming activities that supplied their food for the rest of the year.
